OA Shoulder

OA shoulder osteoarthritis of shoulder is a degenerative joint disease that occurs when the cartilage covers of the bone degenerate’s or wears down.

 

Symptoms

 

  • Pain, swelling, restricted range of movement & clicking.
  • Pain white sleeping.

 

OA shoulder while most often occurs in people who are over 50 years of age. In younger people, OA can result from an injury or trauma such as fractured or dislocated shoulder. This is known as post traumatic arthritis. OA may be also heredity.

 

Diagnosis

 

Clinical examination by the doctor to assess pain, tenderness & Range of motion.

 

Imaging

 

  • X-ray
  • Blood test mainly to look for rheumatoid arthritis and to excludes other disease.
  • MRI Scan

 

Treatment

 

  • Rest
  • Anti inflammatory
  • Physical therapy – performing range of motion exercises to improve flexibility
  • Applying moist heat
  • Dietary supplement like glucosamine & chondroitin
  • If conservative treatment fails shoulder replacement is treatment of choice.
